Trading induction for propane

An all-electric galley looked great on paper. A Thanksgiving dinner aboard a friend's boat changed our minds, and now Fika cooks with a Force 10 propane stove and oven.

When we first refit Fika’s galley, we went all electric: an induction cooktop and a toaster oven that doubled as an air fryer, all running off the lithium bank. We gave it a real try.

What changed our minds

For Thanksgiving 2025, our friends hosted a full Thanksgiving dinner aboard their yacht, S/V Lucy Lynn, in Moss Landing. The whole meal, cooked in a boat’s galley. We were impressed. So impressed that the all-electric galley’s days were numbered.

Out with the old

The induction cooktop and the toaster oven came out. In their place went a completely new propane management system and a Force 10 stove and oven combo.

Most of the work happened in December 2025, and it was finished in January 2026.

The payoff

Since the switch, our batteries have been much happier, and we’ve needed to run the generator much less.
