A new water tank
Fika's new freshwater tank is lined, plumbed in, and nearly ready. A cheap webcam turned out to be the most useful tool for the coating job.
Fika is getting a new freshwater tank.
Lining it
The inside of the new tank got a build-up of West System 105/206 epoxy, then a liner of Carboline Hydroplate 1086 on top. Plain epoxy isn’t certified for drinking water. Hydroplate is, and because it’s the surface the water actually touches, it closes that gap. The West System underneath does the structural work.
The awkward part of coating the inside of a tank is that you can’t see what you’re doing. My fix was an inexpensive onn webcam on the end of a cable, feeding VLC on a laptop. It let me check coverage in corners my eyes couldn’t reach.
Epoxy in a closed tank also needs fresh air while it cures, so a blower kept air moving through it.
Where it stands
The new tank is plumbed in. What’s left is pulling the old tank out and tying the new plumbing into the existing water filters and pump.
